KUNAK: A Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Lahad Datu division member, Djapri Kudosat, urged the authorities to ensure that damaged roads are repaired to last a long time.
He was referring to sections of the road at KM6 and KM7 Kunak - Lahad Datu highway which are ridden with potholes.
He called for urgent repairs but said mere patchwork will not be wise.
“Badly damaged roads should undergo full restoration, not just patchwork repairs,” he said.
He said poor quality patchwork will only make the road condition worse.
He said a number of accidents have been recorded at KM6 and KM7 of the Kunak - Lahad Datu Road, all involving private vehicles navigating the damaged stretches.
Djapri said road users, particularly those driving smaller vehicles, are at risk every time they try to avoid potholes and the rough and uneven road surface.
Daily Express has forwarded photos of the affected road sections to Shahelmey, who has acknowledged the issue and assured that it will be addressed by the Ministry of Public Works.
Shahelmey had said on Thursday that RM1 billion was needed to repair federal roads across Sabah.
