
TAWAU: A 41-year-old man with six prior traffic convictions, including four for speeding, pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate’s Court here on Wednesday to a charge of reckless and dangerous driving, which allegedly caused the death of a motorcyclist in April.
Abu Dari Kuraani entered the plea before Magistrate Don Stiwin Malanjum after the charge was read out.
He is accused of driving recklessly along Jalan Chong Thien Vun at 5.57pm on April 9, resulting in the death of 28-year-old motorcyclist Sudirman Malik Yusup.
The court fixed September 24 for case mention and granted bail at RM2,000 with two local sureties. Abu was also ordered to report to the police once a month until the case is resolved.
In addition, Abu pleaded guilty to two other traffic offences: Driving with an expired road tax under Section 15(1)(A) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and operating the vehicle without valid insurance under Section 90(1), punishable under Section 90(2)Both offences occurred at the same time and location as the fatal accident.
He was fined RM2,000 (or one month in jail) for the road tax offence, and RM1,000 (or one month in jail) for driving without insurance.
His driving licence was suspended for 12 months for each offence.
