Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu may be prepared, under certain circumstances, to carry out a military strike against Iran without US support, broadcaster i24News reported on Tuesday.

The broadcaster cited a Cabinet meeting on Monday evening and quoted Netanyahu as saying: "It could be that we'll reach a situation where we have to confront the Iranians alone, without backing from the US, with all the costs involved - armaments and global isolation."

Israel did not want it to come to that but knew that it could, Netanyahu was quoted as saying.

US President Donald Trump had previously warned the Israeli prime minister against acting alone. The US government is currently holding talks on a framework agreement with Tehran to resolve the regional conflict through diplomacy.

Expert: Going it alone would be a huge gamble

Israeli Iran expert Danny Citronowicz warned on X that a significant military step without US support would be an enormous strategic gamble for Israel's national security and should therefore only be considered if no alternatives exist.

Citronowicz also pointed to the consequences if there were an agreement with Iran that the US administration regarded as a key success. In that case, unilateral Israeli action against Iran without coordination with Washington could come at a high price - including for Israel's strategic relationship with the US.
