Kota Kinabalu: Association of Honorary Members of the Malaysian Volunteers Association (Rela) President Datuk Jerry Ambuting Mohd Said has lodged a police report against Muda Acting President Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz over remarks he claimed were defamatory and aimed at inciting public sentiment against Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki.
The report followed a Malaysiakini article on Wednesday quoting Amira as criticising Azam for allegedly failing to act on claims made by businessman Albert Tei, describing it as a “betrayal of the MACC institution.”Amira also urged the public to lodge police reports against the MACC chief.
Jerry described the statement as baseless, malicious and potentially misleading to the public.
“Amira’s remarks were made without solid evidence, relying only on one-sided claims that have not been proven.
“This is clearly defamatory, tarnishes the good name of the MACC Chief Commissioner and undermines the credibility of a national enforcement institution,” he said after lodging the report.
He further claimed that Amira’s call for public reports amounted to a partisan political attempt to erode trust in the commission.
“Her call for people to file police reports against Azam is a political move intended to weaken public confidence in the MACC, when such allegations should be addressed through proper legal channels,” he said.
Jerry urged the authorities to investigate the matter thoroughly and take legal action if elements of defamation or sedition are found.
“We cannot allow anyone to damage public trust in enforcement agencies simply for narrow political interests,” he said, while reminding the public not to be swayed by unverified political claims.
