Indirect talks between representatives of the US and Iran have begun in the Qatari capital Doha, media reports said on Wednesday.
The technical talks are being held through intermediaries from Qatar and Pakistan, US broadcaster CNN reported, citing a diplomatic source familiar with the negotiations.
Arab news channels Al Jazeera and Al Arabiya also reported the start of the talks, citing their own sources.
US special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of US President Donald Trump, met Qatar's Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani in Doha on Tuesday, according to Qatari reports.
However, they are not taking part in the actual technical peace talks, CNN reported.
The New York Times reported meanwhile that Iran and Oman were putting forward a proposal to collect payment for ships going through the vital Strait of Hormuz waterway. US officials, including President Donald Trump, have repeatedly rejected this idea in the past.
