A Republican Senate candidate has told Americans to “take one less trip to Starbucks” amid the economic strain caused by the ongoing Iran conflict.

Speaking on the The Todd Starnes Radio Show on Wednesday (18 March), Michele Tafoya, who is running in Minnesota, said that whilst she appreciates that soaring gas prices can be “hard”, Americans need to “be patriots about this”.

“Maybe you take one less trip to Starbucks so that gas goes a little further,” she advised.

Since the war began last month, US gasoline pump prices have jumped more than 30%, moving toward $4 a gallon, according to data from the American Automobile Association.
