Kota Kinabalu: Research is an important element in the national education development agenda.
Deputy Chief Minister III Datuk Ir Shahelmey Yahya said the importance of research in education has been clearly outlined in the Malaysian Education Blueprint (PPPM) 2013-2025.
“Research today has become a new global benchmark and certainly demands the ability to discover and create something that is not only new, unique and beneficial but also catalyse well-being in the country’s education.
“Teachers and school leaders have explained that one of the efforts to improve the quality of lecturers is by increasing expertise in certain areas of specialisation and allocating time for teaching, research and publication of materials.

He said during the closing ceremony of the 2023 Sabah Zone National Education Research Seminar held at the Institute of Teacher Education (IPG) Gaya Campus, Friday.
Shahelmey, who is also State Public Works Minister, said the theme of the seminar, which is Research Culture Empowers Education, is very significant with efforts to transform education through research.
“This theme is expected to spark aspiration in educators to be more creative and innovative making excellent organisational educational research a culture.
“The results would not only be enjoyed by the organisation, but also used for the benefit of education services in general,” he said.
At the event, six books published by IPD Gaya Campus were launched, entitled “A Legacy Of Leaders”, “Safety Guidelines”, “60 Years Of Style Sparkling Like Gems”, “Koubasanan Pogun Tokou”, “Legacy Of Style Excellence” and “Patriots of Sabah Education”.
Also present were IPG Malaysia Rector Dr Rosli Yacob, Gaya Campus IPG Director Gertrude Jock and School Management Sector Chief Assistant Director Kassim Ali Ahmad.
