KUALA LUMPUR: Reservoir Link Energy Bhd, through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Reservoir Link Sdn Bhd (RLSB), has successfully obtained approvals from The Energy Commission for several licences under the Gas Supply Act.
These are the gas shipping licence and the import into regasification terminal licence.
Both licenses have been granted for a period of 10 years, subject to the applicable license conditions and annual licence fee requirements.
The approvals represent a significant milestone in Reservoir Link’s strategic expansion into Malaysia’s regulated natural gas sector.
They also align with The Energy Commission’s framework for third-party access (TPA) to the gas transportation and regasification infrastructure, enabling greater market liberalisation and participation by licensed players.
These licenses reinforce the group’s commitment to broadening its energy portfolio beyond conventional oilfield services.
The gas shipping license enables RLSB to participate in the transportation of natural gas through Malaysia’s gas transportation system, while the import into regasification terminal license allows the group to import liquefied natural gas (LNG) into licensed regasification terminals.
Together, these licenses provide the regulatory foundation for Reservoir Link to participate across key segments of the domestic natural gas value chain.
With the rapid increase in data centres across Malaysia driving substantial electricity demand, natural gas is expected to play a critical role in power generation to ensure reliable and flexible energy supply for these high-load facilities.
This positions Reservoir Link to support the country’s evolving energy security and transition agenda.
Reservoir Link executive deputy chairman Thien Chiet Chai said the approval of both the gas shipping license and the import into regasification terminal license marks another strategic milestone for Reservoir Link as the group continues to diversify business into high-value energy infrastructure and gas-related services.
