The government’s resolution of the Bukit Kiara longhouse issue shows its commitment to ensuring justice is not delayed for future generations
KUALA LUMPUR: The resolution of Bukit Kiara Longhouse residents’ issue reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring that the people’s problems are not passed down from one generation to the next, said Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan.
He said the permanent housing project, which will see each eligible family receive two new housing units free of charge, will directly benefit the urban poor community.
“The decision finalised by the Prime Minister is a clear signal that the government will not delay justice for the people,” he said in a Facebook post.
Ramanan, who is also the Sungai Buloh Member of Parliament, welcomed the Prime Minister’s announcement of an additional RM1 million contribution to Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) for maintenance of the area over a three-year period.
“The scale of this project may be modest, but its impact on the lives of the people who have waited for so long is immense,” he said.
Earlier, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim officiated the groundbreaking ceremony of the permanent housing development for Bukit Kiara Longhouse residents here today.
The resettlement issue involving Bukit Kiara Longhouse residents had persisted for more than four decades before legal efforts initiated by residents’ representatives since 2018 eventually led to a more dignified resolution, without compromising the conservation of Taman Rimba Kiara following earlier development proposals in the area.
