KUALA LUMPUR – The Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, has called on all parties to allow due process to take its course following the sanctions imposed by FIFA on the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) and seven heritage players.
The former FAM president stressed the importance of respecting the ongoing investigation and allowing the truth to emerge from the authorities.
"I don't think there is a need for me to comment as many have already expressed their opinions," said Al-Sultan Abdullah at the Walk With King of Sport event at Stadium Merdeka today.
"To be fair, let the process run its course as it should. Let the truth be revealed and come from the responsible parties."
Al-Sultan Abdullah was accompanied by the Tengku Ampuan of Pahang, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, at the event, which gathered 150 invited guests, including several Malaysian sporting legends.
The event saw the participation of national icons such as Datuk Santokh Singh and Datuk Soh Chin Ann (football), Datuk Rashid Sidek and Datuk James Selvaraj (badminton), Nor Saiful Zaini Nasiruddin (hockey), G. Shanti (athletics) and Datuk Leong Mun Yee (diving).
Al-Sultan Abdullah also reminded all parties to view the incident as a valuable lesson to prevent similar mistakes in the future.
"Of course, this should serve as a reminder for everyone moving forward. We must correct the situation for the good of Malaysian football," said His Majesty.
"This is not the time to point fingers. We must rise above the anxiety and problems affecting our football with a renewed spirit."
Al-Sultan Abdullah also expressed hope that the entire football community, including FAM, clubs, and supporters, will remain united to rebuild trust in the country's number one sport.
Earlier, FAM's hope of overturning FIFA's disciplinary sanctions was dashed after its appeal was rejected.
The FIFA's Appeal Committee, on Monday rejected FAM's appeal and upheld an earlier ruling by the FIFA Disciplinary Committee.
FAM was earlier fined 350,000 Swiss francs (RM1.9 million), while seven national heritage players were suspended for 12 months and fined 2,000 Swiss francs each for document forgery in enabling them to represent Malaysia.
The seven players are Gabriel Felipe Arrocha, Facundo Tomas Garcas, Rodrigo Julian Holgado, Imanol Javier Machuca, Joao Vitor Brandao Figueiredo, Jon Irazabal Iraurgui and Hector Alejandro Hevel Serrano. - November 5, 2025
