LABUAN: Labuan Umno Chairman Datuk Mohd Rafi Alli Hassan has presented a two-point proposal “representing the voice of Labuan people” to Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Mazalan.
The first is to consider the special position of Labuan and restore its full duty-free status of between 1984 and 2021.
The second is the approval of a rice import permit for Labuan as the price of the commodity has increased and is troubling many consumers on the island.
Mohd Rafi said the transhipment of rice and sugar to the Philippines was an ongoing activity, but it could not be sold here because according to government agencies, an import permit is required.
