This Hari Raya, as policemen across the nation enjoy their well-deserved break, we have a special suggestion for those who recently received cash from UMNO Youth Chief.
Why not take a drive to Dr. Akmal's house, pay him a visit, enjoy his hospitality, have some ketupat and rendang, crack a few jokes but most importantly, return the favour!
Yes, that's right. Return the money that was given to you. It might seem like an unusual request, but it is perhaps the most honourable thing to do to restore respect to the police force.
Now, we understand that giving money away as "Duit Raya" is a common practice for Muslims during Hari Raya. It is like giving alms to the poor or offering gifts to family members when you visit them on this holy day.
But when it comes from a politician to a policeman in uniform, it raises eyebrows. It's like offering a cop a glass of alcohol while he is on duty in the West - it is simply not done.
We are sure Dr. Akmal gave the money with the best of intentions, but the public perception is crucial. Returning the money would not only uphold the integrity of the police force but also reflect the charitable spirit of Islam, where giving is done with a clear conscience and without expecting anything in return.
By the way make sure someone snaps the photo while you guys return the money. This would not only make you look good when published but would certainly return the favour for Dr. Akmal who had pictures taken when he gave you guys the cash. It will help silence the critics on social media too.
So, to all the policemen involved, we wish you a Happy Hari Raya Aidil Fitri. May this be a turning point where you go through life with a clear conscience and restore the public's trust and confidence in your noble profession.
