Bournemouth burned off competition from Villarreal to appoint Andoni Iraola this past summer.
Villarreal sacked Quique Setien this week, but Relevo says they wanted to replace him with Iraola at the end of last season.
The former Rayo Vallecano coach had even signed a pre-contract with Villarreal.
However, he broke the deal in order to take the Cherries job after they sacked Gary O'Neil.
Setien, therefore, remained in place - though lasted less than a month into the new season.
