Liverpool wanted to sign Denis Zakaria ahead of Juventus teammate Arthur Melo last week, it has been claimed.
Calciomercto.com says Liverpool asked Juve about Zakaria, but the Switzerland midfielder instead ended up signing for Chelsea on loan.
Having missed out on Zakaria, Liverpool subsequently moved to sign another Juventus player, Arthur, who arrived on loan.
Liverpool were unable to agree a deal with either Zakaria or Juventus. Chelsea struck a deal to sign him on loan for £2.5m (€3m) with an option to buy for £24.1m (€28m) plus £4m (€5m) in bonuses.
As part of the deal to sign Arthur, Liverpool reportedly paid a loan fee of £3.87m (€4.5m), while they have an option to sign him permanently for £32.4m (€37.5m).
