TAMBUNAN: A villager from Kampung Sunsuron, here, appeals to the government to review a decision to build the low-level concrete bridge over the Sunsuron River.
The villager, who only wanted to be known as Parainki, said the proposal had been approved by Tambunan Assemblyman cum Deputy Chief Minister II Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan, and the project would be initiated in early next year.
Parainki requested that the crossing be built so vehicles could use it even during flooding.
“Many villagers in Kampung Sunsuron have shifted to Duluan areas as the former is already packed with houses,” he said.
“The crossing would be the main route for villagers from Siba or Sokid to their padi fields or farms.
“The requests for new village areas by villagers had been rejected numerous times.
“The migration is the only solution to the current congestion problem.”
Previously, it was reported that villagers at Kampung Sunsuron built a bamboo bridge over the Sunsuron River due to rising water levels after heavy rain.
They initiated the construction in October as an alternative route, crucial for crossing the river.
Even though there is a road for vehicles near the bridge, it becomes impassable when the river floods.
