Before we begin, here's a disclaimer that this is in no way a sponsored review for Oatside. I purchased the milk myself (with my big girl adult money), and I'm just sharing my review for those who might be interested to try but are still considering due to the higher than usual price point (RM4.90 per pack vs RM3.50 for the Barista Blend & Chocolate).

With that being said, while I'm still a proud omnivore, I'm all for oat milk as a substitute for normal milk. As I have a mum who's lactose intolerant and has IBS, oat milk has provided her an alternative to normal cow's milk, which she truly enjoyed drinking in her younger days. While there's different groups of people with different opinions on whether oat milk is as or healthier than cow's milk, to me, as long as it tastes good and is not unhealthy-er, I'm down to try it.

This was the case with Oatside - I've tried a variety of other oat milk brands, but all of them were very diluted and did not have the thick milky consistency that I was looking for. The first Oatside Pocket Pack flavour I tried was Chocolate, and genuinely, it was the best chocolate milk I've ever tasted. I'm not kidding, I prefer it over real chocolate milk. Whenever possible, I would buy Oatside Chocolate milk over normal ones. As I truly enjoyed it, I was quite excited when Oatside announced that two new flavours would be entering the Malaysian market - Mocha & Caramel Macchiato.

Here's my review of the two new flavours:

Caramel Macchiato: 4.5/5

Compared to their previous coffee/latte-flavoured release, I much prefer this one.

  • As per the real caramel macchiato, the overall taste is a nice level of caramel sweetness that powers through as the first taste when it hits your tastebuds.
  • If you prefer your coffee to be bitter, this might not be for you as it is quite sweet still. I love it because I'm looking for something coffee-based that's a little sweet.
  • Beyond the sweetness, you can still taste the slightly bitter notes of coffee.
  • As for the consistency, it's a bit liquid and lacking that bit of thick ‘kao-ness' that you often look for in caramel macchiato.
  • While I would prefer for the consistency to be a little thicker, this goes down the throat quite easily and is easy to drink without feeling too nauseous.
  • Overall an interesting flavour take on oat milk that I've yet to see other brands attempt, and can serve as a drink on it's own (no need to order caramel macchiato with oat milk instead).
  • Within two weeks of it's release in Malaysia, I've made a second purchase, and it did not disappoint.

Mocha: 2/5

Yeah… not my favourite flavour.

  • While I was also quite excited for this as mocha is basically chocolate + coffee (and their chocolate oat milk was so good), this for me, was not quite what I expected.
  • As a mocha lover, I expected this to taste quite rich with the chocolate and coffee blending together. However, I felt quite let down as the flavours didn't quite fit well together.
  • You can definitely taste the chocolate and the coffee, but it's not blended well, and that lack of mix results in a very weird somewhat-chocolate-flavour-but-not-really kind of taste, which leaves you rather confused as to what you're drinking.
  • It tasted a bit bitter as well, which might have come from the coffee element, but not what I expected as mocha is usually sweet.
  • Drank a bit as a tester and gave the rest to my sister - wouldn't be purchasing this again.

Overall, my current ranking for the Oatside Pocket Pack range is as follows: Chocolate > Caramel Macchiato < Coffee < Barista Blend/Original < Mocha.
