Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Cuepacs has called for a review of allowances for healthcare workers serving in remote areas of Sabah and Sarawak, saying rates should reflect actual conditions on the ground, according toThe Star. Its Chairman Ajulahin Japin said the RM30 flight allowance for healthcare personnel travelling by air to serve remote communities should also be reviewed.
He said hardship and rural allowances should take into account the difficult roads, long travel distances, limited facilities and reliance on air and boat transport that remain common in many parts of Sabah and Sarawak.
Ajulahin also urged the Government to ensure aircraft transporting healthcare workers to remote areas are airworthy, properly maintained and regularly inspected, saying their safety should not be compromised by cost or logistical considerations.
He said allowance rates should not be standardised without considering different levels of hardship, adding that more appropriate rates would recognise the sacrifices of healthcare workers serving remote communities.
