- Revolut has unveiled an in-store facial recognition checkout system called Pay with Smile, enabling customers to make everyday purchases with a “simple glance”.
- The technology is being trialled from 24 to 26 September at Kiss the Hippo cafes in Bloomsbury, Chelsea and Soho.
- Customers must actively opt in via their Revolut app settings to use the feature, which encrypts facial recognition data end-to-end. Personal data will not be stored by merchants.
- Should checks pass and a successful match is found, an account-to-account payment is authorised.
- Revolut is offering zero per cent processing fees on Pay with Smile transactions, which it said will help ease burdens on independent venues.
