Kota Kinabalu: Sabah FC ended their three decades wait for a domestic trophy when they beat Penang FC 4-3 on penalties in the second-leg MFL Challenge Cup final at Likas Stadium on Sunday.

Following the 1-1 draw in the first leg, both teams failed to break the deadlock after 120 minutes of open play and Farhan Roslan who came on as a second half substitute was the hero when he scored the winning spot kick.

It was tightly contested match and Sabah FC kicked off with an impressive display of attacking football, aiming to seize control early on.

However, the visitors were quick to settle into their groove after 10 minutes as they dominated possession and effectively pinned Sabah FC in their own half for the remaining period in the first half.  However, despite their efforts, lady luck seemed to elude them as they failed to find the target repeatedly.

Sabah FC, cheered on by the 20,000 supporters in the stadium, finished the second half strongly with relentless waves of attacks, and continued to dominate in extra time, but again poor finishing denied them the goal.
