Kuala Lumpur: Selangor FC qualified for the 2026/2027 FA Cup quarter-finals after defeating Sabah FC 2-1 in the second leg of their round of 16 tie at the Petaling Jaya City Council Stadium on Wednesday night.
The home victory saw Kim Pan Gon’s side advance to the last eight 4-3 on aggregate, following a 2-2 draw in the first leg last week.
Selangor got off to a bright start when Eduardo Sosa opened the scoring in the 36th minute to give them a 1-0 lead at half-time.
The visitors then equalised four minutes into the second half through Park Jung Bin.
However, Selangor reclaimed the lead when Chrigor Moraes struck the winning goal in the 56th minute to seal the victory for the hosts.
The Red Giants are scheduled to face Star City in the quarter-finals.
Meanwhile, at the Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium, Kuala Lumpur (KL) City FC also advanced to the quarter-finals despite being held to a goalless draw by Perak FA on Wednesday.
The City Boys progressed 1-0 on aggregate following their away victory in the first leg.
Over at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Brunei, host DPMM FC failed to capitalise on home advantage after losing 3-2 to Terengganu FC in the first leg of their round of 16 tie.
The match, originally scheduled for Sept 1, was postponed due to worsening haze.
DPMM opened the scoring through Jordan Murray in the seventh minute before Muhammad Ubaidullah Shamsul equalised for the visitors in the 31st minute.
Murray restored the hosts’ lead in the 34th minute, but Ubaidullah struck again near the end of the first half to send both teams into the break tied at 2-2.
Just as the match appeared headed for a draw, Terengganu striker Romel Morales turned hero by scoring the winning goal in the 85th minute.
Terengganu and DPMM will meet again in the second leg at the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium next Wednesday.
