Kota Kinabalu: Head coach Datuk Ong Kim Swee praised his players as Sabah FC withstood Kuching FC’s late comeback to book their Malaysia Cup semi-final spot after an extra-time thriller at Likas Stadium on Friday night.

The match went into extra time after Sabah FC’s substitute Umareng Bacok guided the ball into his own net in the 84th minute from a corner kick to tie the match 1-1.

However, Taiki Kagayama’s punishing header in the first period of extra time after Saddil Ramdani broke free to tee up the Japanese crushed the visitors’ dream of making the last four as Sabah FC registered a 2-1 aggregate victory in a pulsating second leg match.
