THE nationwide average retail prices of rice and chicken egg rose in early September, according to a report from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) on Friday.
Well-milled rice had an average retail price of P49.96 per kilogram (kg) during the first phase of September (Sept. 1 to 5). This was higher than the second phase of August (Aug. 15 to 17) at P49.61/kg, and in the first phase of August (Aug. 1 to 5) at P49.64/kg.Comparing with prices from a year ago, the average retail price of well-milled rice in early September 2026 showed an increment relative to its average prices in the second phase of September 2025 (Sept. 15 to 17) at P40.11/kg and in the first phase of September 2025 (Sept. 1 to 5) at P40.31/kg.For chicken eggs, its average retail price in early September costs P9.26 per piece, higher than its average retail prices of P9.16 per piece in the second phase of August 2026 and P9.15 per kilogram in the first phase of August 2026.However, chicken egg price in early September showed a decrease from its average retail prices of P9.40 per piece in the second phase of September 2025 and P9.38 per piece in the first phase of September 2025.Prices of other commodities also increased in early September, as shown by the PSA.Galunggong (round scad) in early September costs P248.53/kg, higher than the average retail prices of P246.13/kg in the second phase of August 2026, and P241.46/kg in the first phase of August 2026.Year on year, galunggong price in early September 2026 was higher relative to its price levels of P232.37/kg in mid-September 2025 and P231.11/kg early September 2025.Cabbage price in early September also saw an increase at P125.86/kg from P100.11/kg in mid-August 2026 and P91.63/kg in early August 2026. Similarly, this was higher relative to its price levels of P111.26/kg in mid-September 2025 and P123.15/kg in early September 2025.Native garlic per kilogram in early September costs P173.36, higher than P169.14/kg in mid-August 2026 and P167.95/kg per in early August 2026. On the other hand, this was lower relative to its price levels of P182.38/kg in mid-September 2025 and P183.33/kg in early September 2025.Carabao mangoes in early September cost P182.96/kg, higher than P164.32/kg in mid-August 2026 and P156.24/kg in early August.Among all commodities, only brown sugar recorded a price decrease in early September at P71.55/kg, lower than P71.74/kg recorded in mid-August 2026, and P71.73/kg in early August 2026.
