Richard Madeley ‘forced to watch horrifying execution video’ during El Salvador prison visit

Richard Madeley has described how he was forced into watching an online execution at a controversial maximum security prison.

The TV presenter, 70, visited Centro de Confinamiento del Terrorismo (CECOT) in El Salvador, where thousands of prisoners are serving life sentences, for a new Channel 5 documentary.

Discussing his experience on Good Morning Britain on Thursday (28 May), Mr Madeley said that he was given a phone which showed horrifying footage of an execution.

He explained that he saw five men, who had strayed into a rival gang’s territory, being killed in “full colour on camera”.

“I didn't expect to see it. It was a bit of an ambush, actually. But I have to say, I'm glad that I did because it underlined the brutality of these guys.”
