In recent years, it has become increasingly difficult to afford a meal at a price that not only is gentle on the wallet, but brimming with ingredients as well.

A man recently took to social media to rant about how he felt robbed of his money after he was given a portion of nasi lemak which came at a shockingly high price but had little ingredients to back it up.

M’sian man triggered by RM8 nasi lemak in Sabah

Taking to his X (formerly known as Twitter) account to share the incident, the netizen named @querekboy expressed his anger over how a stall in Sabah charged him RM8 for a portion of nasi lemak.

Based on the photo, the nasi lemak came with rice, two slices of cucumber, a dollop of sambal, and a small portion of peanuts and anchovies before being topped off with a fried egg.

And it seemed that it was enough to set @querekboy off, causing him to descend into an expletive-laden complaint in the caption.

A seller in Sabah sold this nasi lemak with fried egg for RM8! I swear this is bullsh*t. I had to open in stall then double confirm in (the) f***ing car to see again this portion at RM8. F*****K.

He later went on to reveal the location of the stall, saying it was situated in Sook, Keningau, before adding that it wasn’t a tourist spot nor a city to justify the RM8 price tag.

Ignorant or daylight robbery?

In the comment thread, there were mixed reactions towards @querekboy’s post, with some defending him and others mocking him for his apparent ignorance.

One wrote that food prices at Sook tend to be twice as much the normal range in the city and told @querekboy to do his research beforehand and not to be naive.

Another slammed him for calling the seller names and like the previous comment, told him to do his due diligence about food prices in the area before coming.

On the other hand, some sided with @querekboy, with one writing that selling the nasi lemak for RM8 was “out of expectation”.

Meanwhile, a netizen claimed that such instances were the norm in Sabah, saying that his RM3.50 nasi lemak once skyrocketed to RM10 after requesting for a fried egg to be added.
