Ridon: SC ruling rejects VP camp's 'mini-trial,' 'fishing expedition' narrative

HOUSE prosecutor and Bico Saro party-list Rep. Terry Ridon on Wednesday welcomed the Supreme Court’s dismissal of all petitions questioning the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte, saying the ruling puts to rest what her camp’s repeated claims that the proceeding is a “mini-trial” and a “fishing expedition.”

The tribunal’s decision, the lawmaker stated, resolves the legal issues that had been repeatedly raised to challenge the impeachment proceedings.

He added that the ruling effectively ends what he described as the Vice President’s camp’s sustained narrative against the impeachment process.

“As a result of this decision, all talk regarding the mini-trial and the fishing expedition—which the Vice President’s camp has repeatedly used as propaganda—has come to an end,” he said in Filipino in a statement.

The lawmaker emphasized that the impeachment case should now proceed before the constitutional forum designated to hear it.

“The sole battle for truth and accountability is now before the Senate Impeachment Court,” he said.

“We are highly confident that at the end of this fight, truth, accountability, and the nation will prevail,” he said.
