This is a question for the single unmarried lady: Are you tired of waiting for that long-awaited ring? Do you feel like you've tried everything to get your partner to finally pop the question?
Well, have you tried cooking?
Yes, that's right, cooking! As the old saying goes, "the way to a man's heart is through his stomach." But not just any recipe - we're talking about the legendary “engagement chicken.”
This magical recipe, coined by Glamour magazine, supposedly has the power to make your significant other drop down on one knee.
The story goes that a Glamour staffer whipped up this simple lemon chicken dish for her boyfriend, and voila, he proposed soon after. Cue the applause for the chicken!
Now, I'm no love expert, but if a piece of poultry has more power than all your hints, nudges, and ultimatums combined, then maybe it's worth a shot.
After all, who needs heartfelt conversations and mutual understanding when you have a perfectly roasted chicken?
So, here's the recipe for your ticket to matrimonial bliss:
Ingredients:
• 1 whole chicken (3-4 pounds, because size matters, apparently)
• 2 teaspoons salt (for adding flavor, and maybe a pinch of desperation)
• 1 teaspoon black pepper (to spice things up, literally)
• 1 lemon, halved (for that zesty, "will you marry me?" flavor)
• 1 head of garlic, halved crosswise (because garlic wards off vampires, and commitment-phobes)
• 2 tablespoons olive oil (for that extra slippery slope into marriage)
Instructions:
• Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
• Season the chicken inside and out with salt and pepper.
• Stuff the cavity with the lemon halves and garlic.
• Tie the chicken's legs together with kitchen twine (because we're all about keeping things together, right?).
• Drizzle with olive oil and roast for about 1 hour and 15 minutes, or until the juices run clear and the skin is golden brown.
• Let the chicken rest for 10-15 minutes, because even engagement chickens need a breather.
Serve your "engagement chicken" with a side of hope and a glass of sparkling.
Who knows, maybe this time, the chicken will do what all your hints couldn't.
