Ringgit closes easier v US as West Asia conflict persists

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 9 - The ringgit ended easier against the US dollar today, as market sentiment remained cautious amid the evolving outlook in West Asia, said an economist.

At 6pm, the local currency eased to 4.0670/0720 against the greenback from yesterday’s close of 4.0605/0640.

Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd chief economist Mohd Afzanizam Abdul Rashid said Brent crude prices hit the psychological level of US$100 a barrel today as the conflict between the United States, Israel and Iran continues, leading to uncertainties over crude oil supplies from the Gulf region.
