Leny Yoro was at the centre of an early setback against Crystal Palace, and according to Rio Ferdinand, there was an interesting response behind the scenes afterwards.

With Lisandro Martinez sidelined, Yoro has stepped into the starting line-up alongside Harry Maguire, earning the spot after a string of solid performances off the bench.

He followed that with a strong showing against Everton but had a more challenging outing this time, losing Maxence Lacroix for Palace’s opener at Old Trafford.

Despite an initial setback, Yoro recovered to have an average game as Man Utd came back to win 2-1. However, according to Rio Ferdinand, he is now receiving special attention behind the scenes.

There has been a lot of noise around the Frenchman since his arrival, and given the price tag, it is easy to forget the context.

He walked into Old Trafford still in his teens, picked up an injury almost straight away, and then had to settle into a side coming off one of United’s worst Premier League spells in history.

So a few bumps along the way were always going to happen, and his showing against Palace was just another part of that process.

It was a clear mistake from him on Palace’s opener, and speaking on his YouTube channel after the game, Ferdinand said United have already addressed it directly with him.

“The thing for me that I’m hearing now is that they will be going over that goal. That goal will be dissected by Jonathan Woodgate and Jonny Evans. This is where you went wrong; this is how you prevent it from happening next time,” the former centre-back said.

“That’s an important factor I’m hearing coming out of the current regime.”

Michael Carrick’s coaching team continues to impress

There has been plenty of talk about the strong setup Michael Carrick has built at Manchester United, and the way they responded to Yoro’s mistake against Palace is just another sign of that.

Having Jonathan Woodgate and Jonny Evans on the staff gives young defenders like Yoro and Ayden Heaven the kind of guidance they need, and even younger players coming through can benefit.

Travis Binnion has been key in helping Benjamin Sesko click with the attack, while Steve Holland brings everything together from a tactical standpoint.

Carrick ties it all together with his leadership, making sure each part works well with the others. The system seems to be running smoothly across all areas right now.

Yoro is likely benefiting a lot from this structure as he works through some early bumps in his career.
