Rio Ferdinand said he believes England can win Euro 2024 by “playing ugly” as he defended manager Gareth Southgate.
The former England defender said Southgate deserves “more credit than he has been given”.
Speaking on BBC Match of the Day on Friday (5 July), on the eve of England’s quarter final match against Switzerland, Ferdinand said: “They’ve qualified top of the group and they’ve won the first knock-out game and his [Southgate’s] substitutions have impacted games.
“Yes, like everyone else I want to see a better performing England, but they are getting the job done and they can win this tournament playing ugly.”
