TAMBUNAN: Continuous heavy rain over the past few weeks has caused severe riverbank erosion in Kg Kuala Monsok, threatening the main bridge villagers rely on to reach their farms and plantations.

The damage raised concern among residents, as the bridge is their only daily route for transporting ginger, vegetables, and fruits to Tambunan town.

Thanks to the quick action of the Kg Kuala Monsok Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK), the situation was promptly reported to the authorities, drawing the attention of Keningau Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan.

Responding to the appeal, Jeffrey, together with the Irrigation and Drainage Department (DID), immediately took measures to stabilise the riverbank by constructing a 150-metre gabion wall under a special DID allocation.

JKKK Chairman Camillus George Lansou said the swift response brought great relief to about 200 villagers who use the route daily.

Jeffrey added that the government remains committed to addressing the needs of rural communities and will continue providing assistance to ensure their safety and well-being.
