Kota Kinabalu: About RM1 million was spent to upgrade the new building of the Sabah State Tahfiz Institute (Iqtas) to provide comfort to more than its 60 students.
Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Datuk Dr. Ariffin Arif said that the building, which is located next to the Sabah State Mosque, is equipped with various complete facilities for learning the Al-Quran.

“The Iqtas building, which was formerly the Toh Puan Hajah Rahmah Religious School in Sembulan, can accommodate up to 100 students at a time,” he said at the Tahlil and Doa Selamat Iqtas Ceremony, here, on Saturday.

Ariffin said that Iqtas, which offers the Tahfiz Diploma, is now under the management of Jheains and upon graduation, students have the opportunity to continue their studies to a higher level.
“After this, we will sponsor those (Iqtas students) through student donations or scholarships to continue their studies either at universities in the country or abroad such as Al-Azhar University in Egypt.
“We will also place Iqtas under the Muis International Technical College which will collaborate with Jheains to ensure that their study needs are guaranteed,” he said.
