A Malaysian recently bought 3 pieces of Roti Canai from a Mamak restaurant in KL and for that, she was charged RM10.20! The price included “packing fees” of 40 sen, which were charged for each flatbread and of course, along with the inevitable service tax. The post was initially shared on X before it circulated online, and according to a report by Sin Chew, the said restaurant has yet to make any statement in regards to the viral picture.

Based on the receipt, the purchase was made on November 10, indicating that was indeed the latest price of the Roti Canai and the packing fees.

The name and the location of the restaurant, however, were not disclosed. It’s wise for us to check the prices with the vendor prior to buying something but that usually happens when we’re having seafood meals or expensive menus, so is this an indication that we have to double-check the prices even at Mamak restaurants for Roti Canai?

In the meantime, some netizens shared their thoughts about the total bill of the flatbread.

“So, are you going to boycott it?”

“I think this is common. RM10 is considered cheap given the circumstances today, and everything is expensive today.”

“Do you really think this is expensive? It cost me RM8 for a sardine. You might as well just get yourself the frozen flatbread from the market and prepare at home.”

To all the Roti Canai enthusiasts out there, what do you think of the total bill for 3 pieces of flatbread with the packing fees? Common occurrence or daylight robbery?
