The value of RM100 may appear insignificant to some, but for many elderly couples living on their own, it can stretch across an entire month of basic necessities and provide them with a sense of security.

Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, Datuk Fuziah Salleh, highlighted this reality during the launch of the Kotak Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) program by Mydin Mohamed Holdings Berhad. She explained that the impact of assistance depends heavily on the recipient’s background: what feels small and forgettable to one person can be life-changing to another.

“For some, RM100 disappears in a single meal or a round of drinks. But for senior citizens living together, that RM100 can cover their essential needs for the whole month,” she said, stressing how government aid must be designed with empathy for different realities on the ground.

The initiative is part of the government’s broader SARA Untuk Semua campaign, which seeks not only to ease the people’s financial burden but also to nurture compassion and solidarity among Malaysians. “This is more than just a Rahmah box—it is a box of love, from one Malaysian to another. That is the value we want to highlight,” she added.

Fuziah commended Mydin’s ongoing commitment to affordable initiatives such as the Menu Rahmah, noting that private sector collaboration is critical in ensuring that national welfare programs truly reach the people. Importantly, the program also prioritises locally produced goods, supporting micro, small and medium enterprises while circulating money back into the domestic economy.

Mydin has pledged to collect 200,000 Rahmah Boxes by year’s end, delivering aid to households nationwide. The government has also encouraged higher-income beneficiaries who may not rely on the RM100 assistance to channel their funds into purchasing these boxes for others, strengthening the spirit of shared responsibility.

Through SARA Untuk Semua, the government hopes to show that even the simplest contribution can carry a profound impact on the lives of fellow Malaysians, especially the most vulnerable groups. It is not just financial support—it is a reflection of care, unity, and the national principle of helping one another in times of need.
