Kota Kinabalu: The State Government continued to support the Sabah’s media fraternity by contributing RM100,000 to the Kinabalu Press Awards 2022 (KPA).

The Sabah Journalists Association (SJA) committee, under the leadership of President Datuk Muguntan Vanar, received the contribution from Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

“The State Government appreciates the assistance of the Sabah media towards disseminating the development plans, especially those under the Hala Tuju Sabah Maju Jaya,” said Hajiji.

In order to counter various fake news on social media, he also asked the mainstream media to provide accurate and factual news.

Muguntan said the yearly event is jointly organised with the support of the Sabah State Government to recognise the outstanding work of journalists in Sabah and Labuan who work in print, online and broadcast media.

A total of 270 entries were received this year for 23 categories comprising broadcasting, English, Bahasa Malaysia and Chinese languages.

“SJA thanked the Chief Minister for the state’s continued support and consenting to grace this year’s KPA,” said Muguntan.

The Chief Minister is expected to attend the event at the Pacific Sutera Hotel on Dec 18.
