RM150 for every Sabahan student

Kota Kinabalu: The Federal Government allocated more than RM67 million in Early School Assistance (BAP) to help primary and secondary school students in Sabah.

Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Datuk Dr. Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif said each student from Primary One-to Form Five received RM150.

“I am confident that this assistance can at least ease the burden of parents’ expenses in preparing their children’s education needs and hopefully they will be able to follow the lessons well.

“I would like to express my gratitude to the Ministry of Education for providing more than RM67 million to Sabah students.

Dr Mohd Arifin who is also Sabah’s Education Exco, said this after officiating the handing over ceremony of the BAP at the SK Malawa, recently.

At the ceremony, a total of 24 District Education Offices received BAP checks out of 1,298 primary and secondary schools in Sabah.

In a related development, he said the Sabah Education Fund or Tabung Pendidikan Negeri Sabah (TPNS) also provides loans and scholarships to students who continue their studies locally or abroad and priority will be given to outstanding students regardless of their race.

“The State Government allocated a large amount of money for the development of human capital based on STEM education, conducting courses and training skills in the fields of technology, technical, trade and TVET,” he said.

Also present were Deputy Director General of Education (School Operations Sector) Azman Adnan, Sabah Education Department director Datuk Raisin Saidin, Deputy Director of the Pupil Development Sector of the State Education Department, Muddin Beting and senior officials.
