RM150 million Tekun aid for 5,300 Sabah traders

KOTA BELUD: Tekun Nasional, an agency under the Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development Ministry (Kuskop), aims to assist 5,300 entrepreneurs in Sabah with financing amounting to RM150 million this year.

Its Minister, Datuk Ewon Benedick, said in 2024, a total of RM149 million was disbursed to 2,884 Tekun entrepreneurs in Sabah.

Advertisement (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});“During the same period, RM11 million was allocated to 158 entrepreneurs in the Kota Belud constituency,” he said when officiating the Kota Belud Basic Entrepreneurship Seminar at Tag Valley Taginambur, Thursday.

“Tekun Nasional has disbursed RM1.1 billion in business financing to 65,642 entrepreneurs in Sabah since its establishment in 1998 up to December 2024.

This achievement demonstrates that Tekun remains relevant and a preferred financing option for informal and micro-entrepreneurs in this country.”

Also present were Kuskop Deputy Secretary-General (Policy and Monitoring) Noor Afifah Abdul Razak, Tekun Nasional Chairman Datuk Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid, Tekun Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Datuk Adam Abdul Ghani, and Sabah Tekun manager Hemin Osumping.

Advertisement (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});Ewon said as of Dec 31, 2024, Tekun Nasional had organised 1,026 sessions of the Basic Entrepreneurship Seminar nationwide, with a total of 300,401 entrepreneurs participating.

“The 2025 target for Sabah’s basic entrepreneurship seminars is 1,800 participants through six seminar sessions,” he said.

“Tekun Nasional plays a significant role in supporting small entrepreneurs by providing comprehensive financing and training.

“This seminar is part of continuous efforts to ensure that more people in Sabah can benefit from available business opportunities, thereby contributing to the state’s and the nation’s economic development.

“I hope this seminar will positively impact the growth of small businesses in Sabah, particularly in rural areas,” he said.

Some 300 Tekun entrepreneurs from the Kota Belud branch attended the one-day basic entrepreneurship seminar.

It aimed to provide exposure and basic skills in the field of entrepreneurship to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and those interested in venturing into entrepreneurship.
