
Kota Kinabalu: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the State Government has allocated RM16.89 million this year to implement various leadership, skills and entrepreneurial programmes and activities to develop and empower Sabah’s youth.
It allocated RM2.48 million to Sabah youth associations last year, which was channelled through the Sabah Youth and Sports Ministry, with RM1.2 million for the Sabah Youth Council (MBS) to undertake youth development programmes.
The State Government has committed up to RM100.17 million this year for managing expenses as well as youth and sports development in Sabah.
He said it wants to produce a generation of youths who have the knowledge, skills and leadership skills to achieve socio-economic well-being.

His speech was delivered by Deputy Chief Minister III cum Minister of Public Works, Datuk Shahelmy Yahya.
Hajiji said youths need to be prepared with knowledge, leadership and skills so that they are able to lead society to truth and justice.
He emphasised the importance of coordinating and implementing the strengths of each agency participating in youth development in accordance with local demands in order to foster youths based on their potential and talents.
“I hope youth organisations can continue to be empowered so that more people can benefit from youth organizations. The emphasis on integrity needs to be increased so that an organization can run smoothly and achieve its objectives,” he said.
He believes when youths are able to manage the system well, then an organisation is able to face the future well.
There are many challenges ahead that require youths to be equipped with various knowledge and skills to deal with real world issues.
“In this regard, youths need to take advantage to collaborate with as many organizations as possible to find solutions for the community at large,” he said.
Hajiji also wants MBS as a strategic partner of the Ministry and the Sabah Youth and Sports Department (Federal) to play an important role in mobilizing the potential of Sabah’s youths whether both in the urban and rural areas.
