International media news comments on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim meeting with President Xi Jinping and that Malaysia has secured a record RM170 billion of investment commitments from China. The amount, the biggest so far from China, is from a total of 19 MoU sealed between businesses in China and Malaysia.
Anwar, according to Bernama said, this shows investors' confidence in Malaysia. "This is historic. It is good for Malaysia and the future," Anwar added when announcing the news at the Malaysia-China Business Forum 2023 which was attended by some 1,000 business leaders from both countries in Beijing on Saturday, 1st of April.
Anwar went on to say "I assure you that under my watch, we will ensure that the ease of doing business and undertaking investments in Malaysia at optimal level. So, build more partnerships with Malaysian companies, as the most preferred investment destination particularly in the strategic sectors to advance deeper interlinkages."
Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, said Malaysia has been solidified further with the presence of renowned Chinese companies such as Risen Energy, Huawei, Longi Solar, Bytedance, Jinko Solar, EVE Energy, Alliance Steel, Alibaba Group, Geely Auto Group, Xiamen University and many others. "It is my fervent hope that these companies, which have invested in strategic areas, will continue to expand their presence and work with local partners, as well as the government to build capabilities, develop key industries, and create high-paying jobs. I will continue to work closely with China to deepen existing cooperation in the Belt and Road Initiative." he said.
Feedback from business leaders like Jack Niu, CEO, High Precision Machine BU Fives China, providing product and solutions to Solar company and car makers has been encouraging. He said "Chinese investment to Malaysia and ASEAN is not only beneficial to joint venture companies but also other companies which invested in China".
