KINABATANGAN: The federal Rural and Regional Development Ministry has allocated a total of RM18 million for infrastructure development in the Kinabatangan constituency this year, says Sabah Umno Chairman Datuk Bung Moktar Radin.

He said of the amount, RM4 million would be used to upgrade gravel roads to concrete roads, RM6 million for the construction of a new community centre in Kota Kinabatangan town and RM5 million for a new market.

Bung said these projects were in progress, while an additional RM3 million has been allocated for the district’s waste disposal centre at a site currently being identified.

He said among the roads that would be upgraded are the access road to Kg Minusug, Kg Linayukan road, the main road to SMK Entilibon Kg Sanan, Kg Penangah road, Kg Tenaga Baru road and Kg Entilibon Asal road, all of which are in Tongod.

“Plans to improve the basic infrastructure facilities in Kinabatangan have long been put in place,” he said after attending a thanksgiving ceremony in Bukit Garam, here.

“As such, it is odd for certain quarters, especially local GRS leaders, to claim that as MP, I have failed to bring development projects to the area.”

Bung, who is also Lamag Assemblyman, said such claims were baseless and made merely for their political mileage.

“When the Federal Government implemented the projects, they quickly claimed it was their efforts.

“I will continue to work hard to apply for allocations from the Federal Government to implement various developments in the district without depending totally on allocations from the State Government which deems us as the opposition even though Barisan Nasional (BN) is part of the federal Unity Government,” he said.

He also said more allocations will be given to Sabah from the Federal Government next year.
