Woman sells RM2,000 gold bangle for RM17,900 after 20 years
PETALING JAYA: A woman here was pleasantly surprised after a gold bangle she bought for about RM2,000 two decades ago fetched RM17,900 when she recently sold it.
Hasnah Deraman, 54, said she bought the 35-gram bangle about 20 years ago as a form of long-term savings and a way to prevent herself from spending the money unnecessarily.
She said the rising value of gold had resulted in a gain of almost RM16,000 compared with the original purchase price.
“I bought the 35-gram gold bangle for about RM2,000 around 20 years ago. At that time, gold was priced at less than RM100 per gram.
“When I sold it yesterday, the gold price was RM549 per gram. I never expected the bangle to be worth RM17,900 today,” she told Kosmo!
Hasnah said the experience showed how purchasing gold could serve as a long-term savings option for those planning for their future financial needs.
She also encouraged women to consider buying gold according to their financial means, even if they can only afford a small amount at a time.
“There is no need to wait until you have a large amount of money. Start with whatever you can afford and treat it as long-term savings rather than simply keeping cash.
“Buying gold can also provide a form of financial reserve that may be useful during an emergency or difficult period in the future,” she said.
