It is certainly alarming when a large amount of your money has gone missing from your bank account.

Recently, a case of RM2 million missing from 2 fixed deposit accounts was detected at a bank in Kangar, Perak.

According to Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf, Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) director, they received a report on 9 July about this case.

He said that on 27 June, 2 account holders went to the bank to make a withdrawal from their fixed deposit accounts. However, they found that part of it was closed.

“The account holders denied that they ever closed it or made any withdrawals from their FD accounts.”

After the bank investigated, one of its staff was suspected of withdrawing the money and then depositing it into several other savings accounts.

However, that bank staff was found dead on 5 July, reported BERNAMA. Be it as it may, investigations will still go on.

“Eventhough the main suspect has passed on, the investigations of this case will go on under Section 408 of the Penal Code.”

ASTRO AWANI reported that the CCID director has also urged banks to conduct detailed investigations into unauthorised banking transactions, as suggested by Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying.

We hope that the authorities will get to the bottom of this.
