THE Customs Department seized sex toys worth millions of ringgit during a raid on a warehouse in Shah Alam, The Star reports.
Customs Central Zone assistant director-general Norlela Ismail said the raid was conducted on May 20.
"A total of 11,220 units of sex toys worth an estimated RM2.04 million were seized, making it the biggest such haul this year.
"Last year there was a similar raid that saw around RM50,000 of items seized," she said.
A warehouse manager in his 60s was arrested to assist in the investigation and later released on bail.
The warehouse is believed to have been in operation for three years.
"It is believed that the items were for both online and in-store sale," Norlela added.
Sources said the toys could have been shipped here with fake import declarations.
Norlela said the department conducted 40 raids in search of contraband alcohol and tobacco from May 13 -24 in the Klang Valley.
A total of 3,506 litres of alcohol and 355,100 cigarettes were seized with a total value of RM474,267.
"The department arrested 16 people, aged between 30 and 60, to assist in investigations," she added. – June 5, 2024.
