SHAH ALAM, Dec 16 - Several flood mitigation projects have been approved to lower disaster risks during the rainy season in the Dusun Tua state constituency.

Dusun Tua assemblyman Datuk Johan Abdul Aziz said the effort under the state government involves RM10 million each for projects in Batu 16 and Batu 10.

“The federal government has also approved RM512 million to implement main flood mitigation projects in at-risk areas, including Dusun Tua.

“These flood mitigation projects will lower the risk of recurrent floods in these areas. This is among comprehensive efforts to overcome floods in Dusun Tua,” he told Media Selangor.

Meanwhile, Johan said five temporary relief centres (PPS) are on standby in Dusun Tua as early preparations for floods, as the river levels rise every time it rains.

“The five PPS can be activated at any time to ensure residents’ safety as the location is often subject to overflow (from the river).

“We have also prepared food and essential items to help affected residents in the event of a flood,” he added.

On December 4, several areas in Dusun Tua were inundated when water levels rose too quickly, damaging many homes and roads in Hulu Langat.

On the day, Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations and Firefighting Division deputy director Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said firefighters received an emergency call at 9.14am, after which personnel from the Bandar Tun Hussein Onn Fire and Rescue Station were deployed to the location, 20km away.

Twenty flood victims in Kampung Dusun Nanding, Hulu Langat, were rescued by firefighters from waters that rose up to 0.3m.
