RM3,000 for info on culprit who doused kitten in paint

PETALING JAYA – The Malaysia Animal Association is offering a RM3,000 reward for anyone with information on the criminal act exposed by an X, formerly Twitter, user recently of a kitten being completely doused in white paint.

Photos of the kitten were shared by @izzat_bashir who found the cat at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) campus in Gombak.

He said that he had alerted the relevant quarters upon finding the kitten. In a recent update, he shared the latest photo of the kitten after they washed off the paint.

The kitten has been named Meow.

“Meow is now clean after given a bath but is a little weak,” he said.

The matter reached the Malaysia Animal Association and the RM3,000 reward is being offered through the Malaysia Animal Crime Transparency (MyAct).

The cash reward is open to anyone who is able to provide legitimate information with clear proof of the culprit.

“The reward will be given if the culprit is apprehended, charged and found guilty of the crime by the court,” they said.

“This act is not only irresponsible but has put the kitten’s life at risk as paint is a chemical product that can harm cats if they lick it off their fur.”

Those who witnessed the criminal act or those in Gombak can report animal cruelty to the association’s hotline at 010-5394749.

“The case can be investigated under Section 29 of the Animal Welfare Act 2015 for harming cats and can be sentenced to a maximum three years in jail and fined a maximum RM100,000 upon conviction,” the association said. – The Vibes, October 1, 2023
