A Malaysian woman was recently shocked that she had to pay over RM6,000 after repairing her Perodua Viva.

In a receipt that she shared on X (previously Twitter), the total bill amounted to RM6,277 including a deposit of RM1,500.

Her Viva underwent servicing involving 15 components including tyre alignment, steering oil, mounting absorber, a set of calliper pins, drive shaft, and others with a labour charge of RM600. The attention, however, mostly goes to the steering rack which cost her RM3,200.

In her post, the woman, who was stunned and felt scammed also denied sending her car in a severe condition, saying that she has always sent her car for scheduled servicing.

“I have not driven my car for more than 100,000 KM.”

The post has since been removed but it is still circulating on X and Facebook.

Did the workshop overcharge the customer on purpose? The mechanic of the workshop was well aware of the matter that went viral online and has since broken his silence.

“Original item, limited stock”

In a post by Muhammad Zulfaqqar on Facebook, the man clarified that the customer was informed about the price of the steering rack which would be expensive.

This is because Perodua has stopped the production of the steering rack and the vendors who prepare the item can be tough to find.

“I don’t even have the stock myself. I made the order upon request, and asked the customer to pay the deposit. Did she think I bought the rack for only RM150 and sold it to her at RM3,000?”

Zulfaqqar also assured the customer that the steering rack is 100% original.

“The customer asked me to order the original steering rack because she needed it.”

Zulfaqqar also expressed his disappointment in netizens who urged the customer to report the matter to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN).

“If you want to lodge a complain, go on. I still have the WhatsApp conversation with the customer who agreed with the quotation, as well as the receipt when I bought the steering rack.”

To all car enthusiasts, or those who have undergone car repairs, what do you think of the pricing?
