Tenom: A total of RM3.9 million has been allocated for 14 Smallholder Farm Road (JLPK) projects across Tenom, Kemabong, and Keningau to improve agricultural connectivity and access for local smallholders.
Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad said the 14 initiatives comprise completed works as well as ongoing implementations.
She noted that proper farm road networks in rural areas are essential to ease the movement of smallholders, facilitate the transport of farm inputs, and ensure produce reaches the market efficiently.
Speaking at a meet-the-people programme at Kampung Kemabong Lama, she also presented a symbolic handover of RM452,300 for three local initiatives, including RM300,000 for the Kampung Kemabong JLPK project, RM145,000 for Surau Al-Barakah, and RM7,300 for a school digital interactive classroom project (Kids).
She added that the Ministry is also looking into widening the concrete road between Kampung Kemabong Lama and Kampung Kemabong Baru, while commending KPSM Kemabong Tenom Berhad for becoming the country’s first sustainable smallholder cooperative to run a petrol station.
