More than a month after launch, fewer than 20 commercial vehicle drivers have signed up for the government’s subsidised health screening programme, Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook said.
The Pemandu Sihat dan Selamat (PSS) initiative was targeting about 30,000 eligible drivers in its first phase.
Driver Fatalities Rose 22% Last Year
Commercial vehicle driver deaths rose 22.3% to 115 cases in 2025, up from 94 the year before, according to figures from the Social Security Organisation (Socso) cited by the ministry.
Lorry drivers accounted for the largest share, with 62 cases making up 21% of the total.
Eligibility For The RM30 Screening
PSS is open to drivers holding a Public Service Vehicle (PSV) Class E or Goods Driving Licence (GDL) Class E, aged between 40 and 59, who are active Socso contributors.
Eligible drivers pay RM30 for a comprehensive health screening that normally costs RM80 to RM100, with Socso subsidising the difference. It covers physical examinations, eyesight and hearing tests, sleep apnea screening, and cardiovascular, respiratory, neurological and musculoskeletal assessments, along with HbA1c tests for drivers with diabetes.
Screenings are available at 500 participating clinics nationwide, with the government aiming to expand this to about 3,000 clinics. You can find participating clinics and apply through MESAS, Perkeso’s platform for GDL and PSV driver medical exams.
The programme runs until December 2026 and is backed by a RM12.4 million allocation, with RM7 million from Socso and RM5.4 million from the Finance Ministry.
