Education Ministry credits RM300 aid to school accounts for 454 students affected by the Sandakan fire, with support for uniforms and transport.
PUTRAJAYA: A special assistance of RM300 for each student affected by the fire in Kampung Bahagia, Sandakan has been credited directly to their school accounts.
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the school authorities will soon distribute the aid for students to purchase school supplies.
She added that affected students have been given flexibility to attend school temporarily without uniforms. The Sabah State Education Department and Sandakan District Education Office have been instructed to meet student needs, including providing transportation assistance.
“Psychosocial support is also provided for students, teachers and educational staff,” she said in a statement.
Fadhlina said the Ministry of Education is striving to ensure the best assistance is provided to all affected students. She emphasised that aspects of welfare and well-being are being given full attention.
The aid follows Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s announcement during a visit to Sabah. He stated that RM300 would be given to 454 Malaysian students from 12 schools affected by the fire through the MOE.
A major fire on Sunday destroyed around 1,000 houses in the water village, affecting an area of more than four hectares.
