BEAUFORT: The aspiration to create a local economic hub in Lumadan is taking shape with the construction of eight shoplots in Kampung Padas Damit, here.

Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Datuk Ruslan Muharam said RM4.3 million has been allocated for the project, undertaken by Perkasa Realty Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of SedcoBuilt on two acres of land, the development will include eight single-storey shoplots, mobile sales kiosks and a tamu square.

“The project, which has just started, is expected to be completed within 18 months, which is by the end of 2026, and will provide economic benefits to the local community,” he said after officiating the project’s groundbreaking ceremony on Thusday.

Ruslan, who is also Lumadan Assemblyman, said this was the second project by Perkasa Realty in the constituency after a similar development in Weston, which is still under construction.

“As Perkasa Realty’s former Chairman, I proposed both projects to strengthen the people’s economy in Lumadan,” he said.

Also present were Special Officer to the Chief Minister Datuk Mazlan Joehari Manan, Beaufort District Officer Nazri Ajun and current Perkasa Realty Chairman Christopher Mandut.

Ruslan expressed hope that the project would help elevate Kampung Padas Damit into a new township.

“Historically, Padas Damit was once a government administrative and economic centre during the colonial era, which is why it is still known as Pekan Padas Damit today.

“I hope the Beaufort District Office will ensure this aspiration of a New Padas Damit Town is realised soon,” he said.
