
Kota Kinabalu: The State Government has granted a RM6.5 million research grant to Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) and its Bajau Samah Chair.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, who is UMS Pro-Chancellor, handed the grant to UMS Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) Prof Dr Rosalam Sarbatly during the (UMS) Research Award (APUMS) 2024 presentation ceremony at the Sabah International Convention Centre, Tuesday night. RM2.5 million of the State Government’s grant is for the Living Lab Research, while RM4 million is for the Bajau Samah Chair.
At the same ceremony, graced by Head of State Tun Juhar Mahiruddin who is UMS Chancellor, UMS also received an RM8.61 million research grant from Peteronas.
Its Senior Vice President Datuk Ir Bacho Pilong presented the replica cheque to Rosalam. Hajiji later accompanied Juhar to present the Tun Chancellor Special Award, highlight of the night, to Prof Justin Sentian, the first Malaysian scientist to conduct winter research in Antarctica.
